
Supplier Quality Engineer - Automotive Supplier
The Supplier Quality Engineer will support production in all areas of the production process from start to finish. The Supplier Quality Engineer may have ‘cradle to grave’ responsibility for a specific commodity/commodity group(s) and will become the specialist for their specific product with an in-depth understanding of the full process. They will build expertise and ownership with the overall Supplier reported Quality performance of all commodities/commodity group(s) as a main performance metric. This role will create true product champions of the SQE’s reporting to them, who are able to speak with authority and knowledge about their commodity/commodity group(s) and form partnerships with all supplier interfaces in the direction of product performance, application and general quality. They are a key function for Supplier Quality system development and on-going compliance for responsible commodity/commodity group(s). They must ensure procedural compliance is established and maintained regarding Preventative and Corrective action, DTS/Customer specific requirements, Non-conformance tracking and reporting in DTS portals for Quality metrics performance reporting. Drive and provide support / mentoring for 8D development, problem solving, lab & testing standardization, corrective action & read across verification, training to DTS procedures and plant specific resource needs. Execute PPAP, Control plan, PFMEA, DTS procedures and Read across, Customer/DTS specific requirements and audits of compliance.
Include but are not limited to:
Responsible for the overall development, procedures, DTS & Customer requirements and assess performance
Develop, execute and/or monitor quality plans and supplier quality engineering tasks, as well as, manufacturing process validations and controls to ensure compliance with established requirements and regulatory expectations.
APQP - Interface with Engineering and Operations to ensure transfer to Production of new products are in accordance with Customer and DTS requirements.
Support the training of key DTS personnel for relevant requirements of the supplier quality management system.
Define and ensure the implementation of Safe Launch procedures as required for new programs and Controlled shipping procedures for Quality spills at suppliers with a plan to exit within a reasonable time frame.
Provide direction and leadership towards supplied parts Quality standards for production. Drive initial DTS supplier root cause analysis for supplier related quality concerns to confirm supplier fault.
Lead/Coach/Mentor/provide Supplier Quality support for Corrective Action (CA) teams ensure lessons learned are captured and read across to common commodities and programs
Coordinate/coach supplier teams in the creation of monthly reports/data collection
Perform supplier Process/Control plan Audits/Run @ Rates - ensure status is captured and reported w/defined CA plans taken to closure
Highlight and communicate awareness of major quality concerns / Work and coach DTS plant and supplier team members for all significant supplier related quality spills or recalls
Responsible to drive modification of DTS standards/procedures based upon systemic lessons learned
Ensure implementation and compliance to Customer specific requirements
Ensures all CA's properly documented and verified (evidence of revised documents or on-site reviews)
Monitor, Collect and analyze internal and Customer data from reporting tools to establish Quality performance trends, define actions to address these and drive these actions to closure.
Support Plant launch activities as needed – ensure compliance to Customer PPAP requirements
Pull and ensure accuracy of monthly charts for reporting purposes
Ensure SQE support of Internal Audits / Follow Up on responsible Corrective Actions
Oversee and ensure supplier compliance to Customer/DTS ES specifications – per program and Control plan requirements
Drive warranty improvement activities and 8D responses towards DTS responses to customer issues
Ensure training for lab equipment use, testing procedures and MSA issue resolution for all commodities
Ensure common and accepted safety protocols for Quality group are implemented as needed and compliance is maintained within their team
Drive continuous improvement programs with suppliers (award programs, incoming quality meetings, etc…)
Bachelor’s degree required, (Engineering or other technical field desired) with 5-10 years of experience, preferably with a launch; Desired competencies/experiences include: Disciplined Problem Solving, PPAP, FMEA, and strong IATF16949 and Q1 background, internal auditor experience. Demonstrated ability to evaluate Control Plans, FMEAs, Process Flow diagrams, and conduct PPAPs. 2 years+ of specific expertise in aluminum alloy processing. 2+ years+ Experience in the Engineering and Manufacturing of aluminum HVAC Heater and Evaporator Cores.

Other Specifications:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Hands-on experience establishing, auditing, leading and maintaining an ISO/IATF quality system. Experience working as a QE, or SQE in a manufacturing environment utilizing an ISO/IATF quality system. Ability to read and interpret GD&T and engineering drawings. Experience in DFMEA, PFMEA, process control plans and technical process documentation. Trained in and have knowledge of root cause analysis, six sigma, CI and CA processes. Experience working directly with suppliers. ASQ certification preferred. Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Word). Ford and Six Sigma experience preferred.
Travel & casual overtime may be required. Travel should be expected to be 30% at min. Increased occasions of the aforementioned expected during launch.
