Job description

Mission: The CMM Lab Supervisor will inspect product at various stages of production process and evaluates statistical data to determine and ensure the quality of product is met and maintained. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. They will build expertise and ownership with internal and external Customers requirements of related DTS product as a main performance metric. This role will create true product champions who are able to speak with authority and knowledge about their DTS product and form partnerships with all customer interfaces in the direction of product performance, application and general quality. They are the Lead function for MSA system development and on-going compliance for all DTS products. They must ensure procedural compliance is established and maintained regarding Preventative and Corrective action, Customer specific requirements, Non-conformance tracking and reporting of product compliance, gauge calibration/certification and IP testing status. Provide support for 8D development, problem solving, lab & testing standardization, corrective action & read across verification, training to DTS procedures and plant specific resource needs. A CMM Lab Supervisor is one that is conscientious, detail orientated, and a self-starter able to work effectively from verbal or written instruction. They are committed to quality, precision, and timeliness in their deliverables.

Responsibilities: Include but are not limited to:

Advanced programming experience with Zeiss Calypso software and program R&R.

Zeiss CMM experience with Vast RDS XXT scanning head or Keyance scanning equipment

Proficient in computer skill and fluent in Microsoft Office tools (ie. Word, Excel, Power Point and Project, etc..)

Skilled in the use of basic measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, height gage, microscopes).

§ Knowledge of and experience in how to design, set-up and use CMM fixtures as well as Plate layout inspection

Supervise & Manage laboratory process, scheduling, input/output of product testing & conformance and ensure completion of task on time and to aggressive dynamic schedules.

Maintain inspection documentation (written, electronic and photographic).

Strong level of interpersonal/communication skills to work effectively with management, engineering, suppliers and customers.

High level of problem solving skills to identify/perform root cause analysis on dimensional, performance and testing issues and offer recommendations/direction for resolution.

Able to work and maintain a safe working environment – some manual lifting and manipulation of heavy objects required.

Interprets engineering drawings & GD&T, specifications & notes, schematic diagrams and CAD models or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality standards.

Coordinates and ensures the management of all lab equipment to proper standards for calibrations, certifications and maintenance.

Oversees and manages the Gauge Control and Calibration process within DTS

Selects products for visual and dimensional inspection at specified stages in production process.

Records inspection data as per Inspection Test Plans.

Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.

Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.

Provide Quality support for Corrective Action(CA) teams - Highlight and communicate awareness of major quality concerns / Work and coach plant team members for all significant quality spills or recalls

Responsible to drive modification of DTS standards/procedures based upon systemic lessons learned

Ensures all CA's properly documented and verified (evidence of revised documents or on site reviews)

Support Plant launch activities as needed – support and ensure compliance to Customer PPAP requirements

Provide general coaching and mentoring of the plant Quality team members (ie Quality Techs, etc…)

Support Internal Audits / Follow Up on responsible Corrective Actions

Oversee and coordinate ES testing schedules and test plans – collect test reports and assess for compliance

Provide training for lab equipment use, testing procedures and MSA issue resolution for responsible programs

Directly responsible for the execution, coordination as well as supervision, mentoring and coaching the Lab or Quality Techs (as applicable) for:

Process and procedures for the maintenance of lab equipment calibrations and certifications

Define gauge standards for CMM layout – ensure all new programs comply to that standard

Enforcement, updates and replenishment of all Quality and Lab related documentation

Process and procedures for program creation, naming, filing and control

Development and introduction of procedures for use and certification of NEW test equipment

Process and procedures to ensure compliance to IP testing frequency and samples sizes as well as the collection and storage of IP test reports

Ensure common and accepted safety protocols for Quality are implemented as needed and complied

Maintains Lab scope of work – ensure all standards are current and available on site.

At least ONE special project per year – Variability reduction or Process improvement.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred, but proven experience will be accepted with a minimum of 5 or more years of experience in Automotive. Desired competencies/experiences include previous CMM Programming and machine setup experience, skilled in GD&T, previous quality lab setup and maintenance, quality experience working in a manufacturing environment with proven disciplined problem solving and knowledge or experience using gauges and measurement equipment. Must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to read and interpret metal rule. Demonstrated ability to evaluate Control Plans, FMEAs, Process Flow diagrams, and conduct PPAPs. Six Sigma experience or Certification a plus.
